Buzz Hargrove, Liberal Candidate?

According to the news aggregator website National Newswatch, rumors are circulating throughout Ottawa that Canadian Auto Workers Union President Buzz Hargrove will be a liberal candidate in the next election. Even more exciting is the speculation that he will run against NDP leader Jack Layton in Toronto-Danforth!

I think this is excellent news for the Liberal Party and shows that we are very capable of attracting A-Level candidates to run under our banner. It further reinforces to the Canadian public that the Liberal Party is the only viable party which will actually stand up for hard-working Canadians, like those who work in the manufacturing industry.

The Conservative Government has stood by idly while manufacturing jobs have been weakened, and many have disappeared forever. If only we had a Liberal government in power, these concerns might actually be addressed.

This also sends a strong message that, like the Conservatives, the NDP lack the credibility to protect the jobs that Hargrove represents. Having him as one of our candidates will send a message that the only worthwhile progressive party in Canada capable of getting results on their behalf are the Liberals. The NDP may be vocal and loud, but they will never form the government and pass legislation.

Three Cheers for Buzz Hargrove and the Liberal Party of Canada!

That would be a field day for the conservatives.

In recent decades the Liberals could reasonably argue that they were a centrist party. Buzz, however, is left of left. His membership would allow conservatives to claim that liberals are now extremist.

Liberals have been fortunate in that the far-left politicians usually ended up in the NDP (the conservatives have not been so lucky with the far-right, since they have no party to the right of them). Is that now coming to an end?

In the 90s we borrowed a little from the right to achieve success (voters, that is, not ideas). In the 00s, we may borrow from the Dippers to grow the middle...

That's the nice thing about being "stuck in the middle" with us... We have clowns to the left of us, and jokers to the right...

Stuck in the middle with Buzz?

I don't see it. Liberals historically have supported free trade (excluding perhaps the Trudeau era). In recent years they have extended FTA to NAFTA, and negotiated many smaller deals besides.

They also demonstrated how to be fiscally responsible (i.e., balance a budget), something Mulroney utterly failed at.

These are two majors issues - and two major strengths - for the Liberals with which Buzz is seriously at odds. Liberals are inviting a Buzz Saw into their midst which will make Sheila Copps look mild and accomodating by comparison.

Yes he'll be a pain for the conservatives. He might be a bigger pain for the libs.

Western grit, you have a leader who rides the back of green mythical unicorn when it's minus f%cking infinity in the most southern point of the nation as april approaches............yet not even proposing real measures to fight global warming/cooling/climate change/hug a bug/etc, only a socialist tax grab system to redistribute wealth while the Canadian economy is not in the greatest shape is what he has to offer. All the while, the poor man has let the once socialist premier of ontario into the equation of your "stuck in the middle" confusion. The Liberals are no where near centre, you are a PARTY, of the left, with some MEMBERS in the centre, maybee if they were allowed to show up to vote we could see a clearer manifestation of this. Eradicate "poverty", "national tuition coverage", man, I can only imagine how pi$$ed of Layton could be because his platform is being tooted by the libs.

One more thing to add, if the BUZZard is left of left, David Miller is even left of that! Let it be mentioned that Mike Duffy reported another rumour that Miller might be running as a Liberal against Oliva Chow in the "capital of the Universe"

I think this is terrible. I thought the Liberals were a liberal party, not a socialist party. This is awful.

I think this is a great opportunity for our party becuase it shows that we are capable of attracting top-tier high-profile candidates. Our party is full of optimism and motivation for the future!
