I’m still upset with Michael Ignatieff over the whole abortion vote fiasco in the House a few weeks ago. Why? He promised that those who defied the party line would be dealt with.
What’s happened to those anti-choice Liberals that helped the Tories defeat our motion that day? Paul Szabo is still Chair of the Ethics Committee – that’s an extra $10,000 a year in salary he gets. And Dan McTeague is still a full Liberal Party critic.
So Michael promises our core that he will deal with these rebels, yet nothing happens.
I tell you this...Bob Rae wouldn’t have had this happen in the first place.

Why? Because you can't have a knee jerk reaction against several MPs which are good critics or good campaigners.
I'm as pro-choice as the next guy, but Ignatieff is right not to start crucifying pro-life MPs in the caucus. These are members with a lot of influence and a lot of excellent attributes that extend beyond this one thing. Even Derek Lee, whom we praise to high heaven over this handling of the contempt-of-Parliament motion, is pro-life. Should we start stripping away his speaking time?
Punishment will and must occur for this breach of the whip, yes. But Ignatieff's own initiative was flawed when he just assumed they'd follow the whip. These people should try doing the math before they dream these things up - we can prevent clashes like these.
Ignatieff needs all the help he can get obviously. He can't really go around pounding his MP for being pro OR anti-life.
Was it the Newfoundland MP's who told him to piss off once already?
Face reality, Iggy is a little bitch. Dion may have been kinda nerdy, but the guy had huge brass ones to stick to his his convictions as he did.
Given we have the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, brought in by Liberals, don't you think it's a little hypocritical to punish someone for their religious beliefs?
Besides, you don't know what conversations he may have had with them.
So you want to make the Liberal tent smaller?
Since when did the Liberal party leader turn into a Reformatory Harperite?
